On Thursday, we toured the Great Ocean Road (Kirin to post about this after he wakes up). We stopped at the Kennett River Koala Walk but since it was raining, we only saw 1 Koala. But there were a lot of other birds that we had never seen before.
The first bird is the Crimson Rosella (Platycercus elegans). This was bird was red, white and blue and we saw it on the 4th of July.

Here's a closeup!

Next we saw the Sulphur- crested cacatoo ( Cacatua galerita )

Then we spotted the koala curled up in a tree trying not to get wet! The picture didn't come out good so I am not showing it. Finally, we saw a laughing kookaburra (Dacell novaeguineae) which we have always wanted to see.

We also saw this bird but we couldn't figure out it's name- does anyone know?

Thanks for helping us figure out the bird! It does look like a Gallinula tenebrosa. Thanks Dr. Steer!
Greetings from Albury. When I was growing up we called those birds Moor hens. Do you think it is a Gallinula tenebrosa? We are following your adventures and planning the Steer family trip to Uluru based on your experiences. Christopher
Nice post Sim. I have always wanted to see the laughing kookaburra. Can't wait to see what other animals you see.
Excellent job Simi! Thanks for teaching us all about the ornitology in Victoria. The birds are beautiful. There is a Koala problem in Victoria and Kangaroo Island and I am curious to see what you think of overcrowding of Koalas. They are very cute and I would have been happy to have taken one home with me :)
Loved today's post.....thank you! :)
